EUROVISION star James Newman is going for gold – or at least his trousers are.

Back in February The Sun exclusively revealed that the British singer, 35, would represent the UK in the competition.

The Settle-born star was supposed to take part last year and perform his song My Last Breath, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the contest was cancelled.

Since it was announced that the singer was taking part in this year’s show, he’s been making sure that he hits all the high notes of his new song Embers.

He was recently seen dancing around on stage at the Rotterdam Ahoy area in the Netherlands, where the competition is due to take place this Saturday.

James definitely stood out from the crowd in a pair of flashy and very tight trousers, while his backing dancers donned all white suits.

Speaking out about his chance to represent the UK again this year, James said: “I’m so excited and honoured to be getting a second chance at representing my country in the Eurovision Song Contest.

“I haven’t stopped making new music in lockdown and I can’t wait for everyone to hear the song I’m taking to Eurovision in 2021.

Jo Wallace, who is the acting Controller of Entertainment Commissioning for the BBC, added: “We are so pleased to have James back with us and representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2021.

“After 2020 and the cancellation of the 65th Contest, Eurovision is exactly what everyone needs!”

Last night Iceland were yesterday forced to pull out of the live show after a member of the band Daði og Gagnamagnið tested positive for Covid.

Band member Jóhann Sigurður Jóhannsson confirmed the news on his Instagram.

He told fans: “I’m generally very sad about the whole situation,” he said. “I’m healthy. It’s difficult because we’ve worked so hard and I really wanted this and it’s been so long in the making.

“We’re really proud of our rehearsal and I’m hoping we will make Icelanders proud and make our supporters proud.”

Watch the second semi-final of Eurovision 2021 tonight from 8.00pm on BBC Four or leave stream it on BBC iPlayer
